PUBLIC RELATIONS CASE STUDIES



An international client wanted a strong Houston kickoff for their cultural exchange program with Texas. Brown Nelson provided access to Houston’s leadership, former Texas Governor John Connelly, and cultural communities and staged a dramatic 3-day roll-out.



Shell Oil Company needed a video program describing a mortality study of Shell’s Deer Park Chemical Plant workers. Brown Nelson wrote and produced a 20-minute program containing expert testimony and a clear statistical presentation of the study. The program was shown to each employee at Shell’s plant.


An industry group led by Monsanto undertook the remediation of the MOTCO Superfund toxic waste dump site. They called upon Brown Nelson to assist them with media and community relations. Within a few weeks, several potentially angry communities and their media became supportive of industry’s efforts to clean up a dangerous site.


An inner city agency funded by The United Methodist Church and United Way, required a fresh fundraising program and a means of communicating with their supporters. Brown Nelson designed and produced quarterly newsletters, award-winning annual reports, and created a unique "shareholder" approach to fundraising. Thousands of new dollars flowed into the Center, and community support of Wesley increases each year. The program proved to the agency that fundraising on a large scale was possible which lead to a major building campaign and a new $1M facility.


The Association for French Science, Industry & Technology – with the French-American Chamber of Commerce – wanted a one-day university symposium to enhance the technology image of France. Brown Nelson planned and conducted the event at the University of Houston with French and American speakers from across the energy industry.


An international chemical storage company needed new corporate capability brochures for their major North American divisions. This project expanded into an advertising program and the development of a Total Quality Management campaign for employees, suppliers, and customers.


A client desiring increased exposure in the State of Texas hired Brown Nelson to mount a series of community relations projects. More than 125,000 pieces of used clothing was collected in several cities. Art created from recycled materials was presented to the Governor and toured the state in shopping malls and other venues. Science Fair winners were honored with a special night at a Houston Astros game in the Astrodome. More than 75,000 books were collected for senior shut-ins. Over a ton of Christmas cards were collected and given to schools for youngsters to recycle into other art projects. A science literacy week was created to honor scientific excellence and introduce simple science to customers of a prominent bookstore chain.
